Resolution No. 29 Executive Board and Other Referrals

WHEREAS, a number of resolutions have been submitted on subjects that require additional study or for other reasons are more appropriate for International Executive Board consideration and/or action;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that:

(1) The following resolutions be submitted to the International Executive Board for its consideration and disposition:

a) The USW should evaluate increasing the start date and amount of payments from the Strike and Defense Fund while maintaining the long-term viability of the fund.

b) State AFL-CIO offices should be appointed from within affiliates.

c) The USW should poll its members prior to making future Presidential and Prime Minister endorsements.

d) Next Generation Committees will be added to District conference programs and all Locals will be encouraged to create their own Next Generation Committee.

e) Lobby all necessary levels of government to strengthen and enforce legislation that protects call center workers.

f) Refurbish the Fannie Sellins Monument and hold a memorial service in 2019.

g) The USW will endorse, support and form a “Veterans of Steel” program to honor our Veterans and returning Military Service Members.

h) The USW will support full pay equity in our collective agreements and support increasing the minimum wage to a living wage. The USW will create a job evaluation system that accurately reflects workers skills, responsibilities, effort, and working conditions.

(2) We commend the many Local Unions that prepared and adopted these resolutions.
